TEACHING

Web-cam

With the advent of the increasingly popular web-cam and Skype, Matt can bring the lesson to you—no matter where you live. With this technology, you can learn everything that you would learn in a studio setting without leaving your home. This technology is advantageous to those of you that don’t live around fiddlers, or to anyone wanting to learn tunes, get pointers on technique, or learn some practical applications of music theory. In addition to teaching by ear, Matt e-mails the student a PDF file of the tune in standard musical notation. This allows the student to remember the tune after the lesson is over, and to help the student keep track of his or her repertoire. You can e-mail Matt directly for prices and availability. combsmatt@mac.com

Blair

As head of the Fiddle Department, Matt also offers fiddle lessons at Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music. In addition tos his work teaching college students, he also offers lessons for pre-college, and adult students. These lessons are taught in Matt’s studio on the campus of the Blair School of Music. Matt uses a combination of teaching by ear, and by notation to help the student flourish in both areas of learning. In addition to learning tunes, Matt puts an emphasis on technique, music theory, and ensemble playing. For information, contact Matt at combsmatt@mac.com. Blair School of Music.

MP3 or Video

Are you a student that wants to learn some tunes, but doesn’t want to start formal lessons? Perhaps this is your answer. Matt can make a custom recording or video of any tune that you would like to learn, and email it to you. Simply send Matt a request of what tune(s) you would like to learn, and your custom lesson will be on its way. Matt will play the tune up-to-speed, and at a much slower learning tempo. Included will also be a PDF of the sheet music. For information, send Matt an e-mail at combsmatt@mac.com.
